HILL Country Report: Romania
21.07.2009 - With the name deriving from the Latin word “Romanus” (Roman), Romania has surprised many foreign visitors when they encountered “a Latin island in a Slavic sea”, as it is often called due to its predominant Slavic neighbours. A picturesque land, with a steady economic growth in the last years, Romania has become more and more attractive to investors in a variety of domains.
Romania has a favorable geographical positioning, being situated at the crossroads of the important traditional trade routes and offers access to a consumer market of over 20 millions inhabitants. The country has access to river and sea traffic; Constanta is the biggest harbor and the Danube Channel offers exit to the Black Sea.
The capital Bucharest is located in south-eastern part of Romania and has a population of over 2 million inhabitants.
Since 1st of January 2007 Romania is a full member of the European Union. Since 2000, the government has implemented macroeconomic policies which are supportive of growth. Read more >>
